The ROG MAXIMUS Z690 Formula motherboard pairs 12th generation Intel processors with PCIe 5.0 bandwidth, transferring up to a 128 GB/s in an x16 configuration using the Z690 chipset.

Thermal Design

The VRM heatsinks include an EK CrossChill III cooling solution, which works with the high-conductivity thermal pads and dual embedded backplates to help maintain optimal performance under demanding workloads. M.2 heatsinks on both the motherboard and the ROG Hyper M.2 Hyper card are designed to help avoid speed throttling during sustained data transfers. There is also a water-cooling zone that supports different pump configurations.

Note:

When ROG Hyper M.2 card is installed on PCIEX16(G5)_1, the Hyper M.2_1 slot can support PCIe 4.0 x4 mode while PCIEX16(G5)_2 allows support for PCIe 5.0 x4 mode. Both will disable the Hyper M.2_2 slot. Installing it on PCIEX16(G4)_3 allows both Hyper M.2 slots to support PCIe 4.0 x4 mode. SATA6G_E1-2 ports cannot support RAID 0/1/5/10.

Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 4 port.
